Chestnut Brae Named One of WA’s Ten Best Farm Stays

We are delighted to share some rather special news from Chestnut Brae.

Our little farm in the hills of Carlotta, near Nannup, has been featured in the Spring 2026 edition of RAC Horizons, where Chestnut Brae Farm Stay has been selected as one of “Ten Best Farm Stays” in Western Australia.

For a small family farm like ours, being included among ten very different farm stays from across the State is something we are incredibly proud of.

And what makes it particularly special is why people come to a place like Chestnut Brae.

More than somewhere to stay

At Chestnut Brae, we have always believed that a farm stay should be about more than having somewhere comfortable to sleep.

It should be an opportunity to slow down, breathe deeply and experience a little of farm life.

Our farm is tucked away in the beautiful Carlotta Valley, surrounded by forest, orchards and farmland. Here, the seasons shape everything we do.

In March, the chestnut orchard comes alive as thousands of sweet chestnuts ripen on the trees.

There are animals to meet, orchards and gardens to wander, birds to listen to and plenty of space simply to sit and enjoy the quiet.

And, of course, there are chestnuts to taste.

A foodie adventure in the South West

RAC Horizons describes Chestnut Brae as combining “a quaint farm stay and foodie adventure in one.”

We rather like that description!

Our chestnuts are grown right here on the farm, and over the years we have developed a range of products that allow visitors to experience the humble chestnut in all sorts of ways.

From fresh chestnuts and chestnut flour to chestnut cream, chestnuts in syrup, chestnut mustard and other seasonal farm products, there is always something interesting to discover.

Our farm tours also give guests an opportunity to learn about how we grow our chestnuts, our approach to regenerative and organic farming, and the many connections between healthy soil, healthy trees, animals, food and people.

Something for the whole family

One of the things we love most about farm stays is watching children discover where food really comes from.

At Chestnut Brae, they can meet our friendly farm animals, including our goats, Wessex Saddleback pigs, turkeys and bantams.

There is something quite magical about seeing a child’s face light up when they realise that a farm isn’t just somewhere they drive past on the way to somewhere else.

It is a living, working ecosystem.

And while the children are busy meeting the animals, adults can slow down, explore the orchard, enjoy the scenery and sample some of the produce grown and made here.

A chance to reconnect

Life can be wonderfully busy, but sometimes we all need somewhere to step away from the noise.

A farm stay offers a different kind of holiday.

There is no need to rush from one attraction to another.

Instead, you might wake to birdsong, wander through the orchard, watch the animals grazing, explore the surrounding South West or simply sit with a cup of tea and enjoy the view.

That connection with nature is at the heart of what we are trying to create at Chestnut Brae.
